INSURANCE AROUND YOUR BUSINESS

On the road.
At the premises.
Across the business.

Driving vehicles for the trade and protecting the business premises are different risks. Road risk cover concerns agreed vehicle use; a combined policy can bring together selected vehicle, premises and liability sections. Check stock, customers’ vehicles, tools and equipment separately.

Vehicle sales

Service & repair

Body shops

Full or part-time

A motor trade policy is not unrestricted cover to drive any vehicle. Activities, drivers, vehicle types and values must fit the agreed terms.

Tell us about your requirements. Available cover depends on the insurer and your circumstances.

Buying and selling vehicles?

We have a dedicated guide for car dealers, including businesses trading from home, operating part-time or using a forecourt. It covers the information to prepare about road risk, vehicle limits, storage, collection and customer test drives.

EXPLORE YOUR POLICY DETAILS

01

DETAIL

What the business actually does

List each activity and its approximate share of the business. Include occasional work, vehicle sales and collection or delivery.

02

DETAIL

Own stock and customers’ vehicles

Tell us typical and maximum values, vehicle types and how many are held at one location. Personal vehicles need to be declared separately.

03

DETAIL

Where the work happens

Explain every trading or storage location, security and whether you work from home, a unit or mobile premises.

04

DETAIL

Who works and who drives

Tell us about proprietors, employees, subcontractors and anyone needing road cover. Job roles and driving permissions are separate questions.

These examples help us understand your needs. Available cover, terms and acceptance depend on the insurer.

03 / OPTIONAL EXTRAS

Extra protection.
A clearer picture.

Explore optional benefits and related policies. Some may already be included; others need separate cover. We’ll explain what is available for your circumstances.

01 / 06

Customers’ Vehicles

Check how vehicles belonging to customers are protected while in your care, on the premises and during agreed movements.

What we’ll help you check

  • What is the maximum value of one vehicle?
  • What is the total value at one location?
  • Are collection and delivery movements included?

02 / 06

Premises & Contents

Discuss the buildings, stock, plant and equipment at the locations you occupy. Property sums insured and security conditions need to reflect the business.

What we’ll help you check

  • Which locations and property are included?
  • What values and limits are needed?
  • Which security conditions apply?

03 / 06

Public Liability

Discuss separate cover for liability arising from your business activities. It does not replace the motor insurance needed for use of the vehicle.

What we’ll help you check

  • Which business activities are insured?
  • How does it fit with the motor policy?
  • What limits does my contract require?

04 / 06

Employers’ Liability

Discuss the people working for the business, their roles and employment arrangements so the applicable liability requirements can be checked.

What we’ll help you check

  • Who works for the business?
  • Are temporary staff or subcontractors involved?
  • Which activities must be declared?

05 / 06

Workmanship & Products

Tell us the repairs, products and services you provide. Liability arising from work and the cost of correcting the work itself can be treated differently.

What we’ll help you check

  • Which activities are accepted?
  • What liability follows completed work?
  • Is the defective work itself excluded?

06 / 06

Business Interruption

Ask about help with insured financial loss following a covered interruption. Triggers, the indemnity period and the basis of cover matter.

What we’ll help you check

  • Which events trigger cover?
  • How long could recovery take?
  • What financial information is needed?

Choose an option to explore. Availability, limits and exclusions vary. Related policies may be arranged separately; we’ll provide the relevant terms before you decide.

A LITTLE MORE CLARITY

Your questions
answered.

Answers to common questions about motor trade insurance, drivers and arranging cover.

Understanding the cover

Start with what you do and where you do it. Road risk insurance addresses agreed vehicle use, such as collection, delivery and testing. If you also have a workshop, forecourt, tools or stock at premises, a combined motor trade policy may offer relevant property and liability sections. Neither name guarantees every activity is covered: compare the selected sections, vehicle limits, excesses and exclusions.

Yes. Tell us whether you trade full-time or part-time, how long you have traded and whether you work from home or business premises. Explain your other occupation, the number and type of vehicles you handle, and who needs to drive. Insurers may ask for evidence of genuine trading; acceptance and terms depend on your circumstances.

No. The agreed drivers, vehicle types, maximum values and permitted uses matter. Tell us about personally owned vehicles, private use and customer demonstration drives before arranging cover. A vehicle being in your possession does not automatically mean every driver or journey is insured. Check the certificate, schedule and policy wording for the actual permissions.

Check this specifically when arranging the policy. Cover for a customer’s vehicle while driven can differ from cover while it is stored, repaired or awaiting collection. Tell us the maximum value of any one vehicle, the total value you hold and where vehicles stay overnight. Road risk alone should not be assumed to cover every vehicle at your premises or every cause of loss.

Vehicles, drivers and use

Tell us the activities and people involved. We can discuss the available sections or separate policies and the appropriate requirements.

Tell us about the work you carry out at customers’ premises, at the roadside and at any workshop. Explain whether you move or test customers’ vehicles, carry tools or equipment, and undertake specialist repairs or recovery. We’ll discuss the relevant vehicle and business risks; insurer acceptance and available sections depend on the declared activities.

Getting a quote

Choose a quick callback or share your quote details using the enquiry form. You can also call 020 8374 9331. We’ll review your information and discuss the available options.

No. It asks our team to contact you. Cover must be arranged and confirmed, with the required details and payment arrangements completed, before you rely on it.

Yes. Ask us about available payment arrangements and the total cost. Instalments on an annual policy are not the same as a monthly insurance policy. Finance is subject to eligibility and terms.

Managing your policy

Contact us before changing vehicles, drivers, activities, locations or other insured details. Insurer acceptance, additional premiums and fees may apply. Check the change is confirmed before relying on cover.

Please contact us and confirm your request in writing. Any refund, fees and outstanding finance depend on the policy terms, time on cover and claims position.
