LONDON ROOTS. PERSONAL SERVICE.
Goods in Transit
Insurance.
Think beyond the vehicle. Consider the load.
Tell us what you transport, who owns it and the responsibility you accept. We’ll discuss insurance options for goods in transit alongside your motor cover.
An initial enquiry. Cover starts only when arranged and confirmed.

INSURANCE AROUND YOUR BUSINESS
The vehicle moves it.
The load needs its own check.
Insuring a van does not automatically insure its contents. The goods, values, journeys and contract terms shape the cover needed.
Own goods
Customer goods
Load values
Security conditions
Goods-in-transit cover does not replace motor insurance or automatically cover every type of load, storage or contractual liability.
Tell us about your requirements. Available cover depends on the insurer and your circumstances.

03 / THE CROSSROADS APPROACH
Know where you stand.
We explain the cover, excesses and relevant terms before you decide. You can ask us about the details at every stage.
01 / YOUR COVER CONSIDERATIONS
Different risks.
Considered together.
These are areas to discuss, not a promise of included cover. We’ll confirm the sections, limits and conditions available for your business.
01 / COVER CONSIDERATIONS
The goods
Describe the loads and the values at risk.
Your own goods or goods for others
Maximum value per load and vehicle
Restricted or excluded commodities

Multiple drops and return journeys
Availability, limits and terms must be confirmed in your quotation.
02 / COVER CONSIDERATIONS
Responsibility
Check the basis on which protection is arranged.
Goods value or carrier’s liability
Conditions of carriage and contracts
Who owns and insures the goods
Contractual limits and excesses
Claims evidence and notifications
Availability, limits and terms must be confirmed in your quotation.

Start with a conversation.
We’ll explain the available cover and excesses before you decide.
02 / YOUR POLICY DETAILS
The details.
The difference.
Explore the points to discuss when arranging goods in transit insurance.
EXPLORE YOUR POLICY DETAILS
01
DETAIL
What is being carried?
Describe the goods accurately, including fragile, valuable, temperature-sensitive or unusual items.
02
DETAIL
The most you carry at once
Consider the maximum value per load, vehicle and event. Explain whether several consignments travel together.
03
DETAIL
Whose goods and whose risk?
Tell us who owns the goods and which contracts or conditions of carriage apply. Carrier’s liability and full-value cargo cover are different.
04
DETAIL
From collection to delivery
Explain routes, loading, unloading, stops and overnight storage. Security and territorial conditions must match how you work.
These examples help us understand your needs. Available cover, terms and acceptance depend on the insurer.
03 / OPTIONAL EXTRAS
Extra protection.
A clearer picture.
Explore optional benefits and related policies. Some may already be included; others need separate cover. We’ll explain what is available for your circumstances.
01 / 06
Carrier’s Liability
Where you carry goods for others, discuss the liability you accept under your contracts. This differs from insuring goods for their full value.
What we’ll help you check
- Which conditions of carriage apply?
- What liability limit is required?
- Are unusual loads or contracts accepted?
02 / 06
Loading & Unloading
Explain how vehicles or goods are loaded, secured and unloaded. Handling risks may need specific cover beyond driving on the road.
What we’ll help you check
- Which handling operations are accepted?
- Are lifting and winching included?
- When does responsibility begin and end?
03 / 06
Storage & Security
Explain where goods are kept during journeys and overnight. Unattended vehicle, storage and security conditions need checking.
What we’ll help you check
- What security is required?
- When does transit cover end or storage cover begin?
- Must changes be notified?
04 / 06
Public Liability
Discuss separate cover for liability arising from your business activities. It does not replace the motor insurance needed for use of the vehicle.
What we’ll help you check
- Which business activities are insured?
- How does it fit with the motor policy?
- What limits does my contract require?
05 / 06
Motor Legal Cover
Help with eligible legal costs when pursuing uninsured losses following a non-fault accident. Conditions apply to the prospects of success and authorisation of costs.
What we’ll help you check
- Which losses can be pursued?
- What must happen before costs are authorised?
- How is a claim reported?
06 / 06
Tools & Equipment
Discuss cover for tools and equipment carried in your van. Check the value at risk and storage conditions rather than assume the motor policy protects everything inside.
What we’ll help you check
- What is the limit per item and per vehicle?
- Is overnight storage permitted?
- What security and evidence of ownership are required?
Choose an option to explore. Availability, limits and exclusions vary. Related policies may be arranged separately; we’ll provide the relevant terms before you decide.

A LITTLE MORE CLARITY
Your questions
answered.
Answers to common questions about goods in transit insurance and arranging cover.
Understanding the cover
Is goods-in-transit cover included with van insurance?
Not automatically. Any included benefit can have limited scope, and a separate policy may be needed.
What is the difference from carrier’s liability?
Carrier’s liability concerns your legal or contractual responsibility for others’ goods. Cover for the goods themselves may be arranged on a different basis. Explain your contracts so the distinction can be checked.
Are thefts from an unattended van covered?
Only within the policy conditions. Locks, parking, overnight storage and evidence of forcible entry may affect the cover.
Are all types of goods accepted?
No. High-value, fragile, hazardous, perishable and other specialist goods can have exclusions or special requirements. Declare them before arranging cover.
Loads, handling and journeys
Does cover include loading and unloading?
It depends on the wording and the operations declared. Explain who handles the goods and the equipment used.
Can I transport goods overseas?
Tell us the countries, routes and transport methods. Do not assume UK transit cover extends to international journeys or storage.
Getting a quote
How do I request a quote?
Choose a quick callback or share your quote details using the enquiry form. You can also call 020 8374 9331. We’ll review your information and discuss the available options.
Does the enquiry form put cover in place?
No. It asks our team to contact you. Cover must be arranged and confirmed, with the required details and payment arrangements completed, before you rely on it.
Can I ask about monthly payments?
Yes. Ask us about available payment arrangements and the total cost. Instalments on an annual policy are not the same as a monthly insurance policy. Finance is subject to eligibility and terms.
Managing your policy
Can I change the policy later?
Contact us before changing vehicles, drivers, activities, locations or other insured details. Insurer acceptance, additional premiums and fees may apply. Check the change is confirmed before relying on cover.
What happens if I want to cancel?
Please contact us and confirm your request in writing. Any refund, fees and outstanding finance depend on the policy terms, time on cover and claims position.
When can I speak to the team?
Call 020 8374 9331, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. We are based at 133 Tottenham Lane, Crouch End, London, N8 9BJ.
